Snakes on a ..... Carpet??

Just want to say WTF? I bent down between the old chair and the mahogany chest of drawers in the dining room to move the cable I spied on the carpet ( we've misplaced the camcorder lead and have been looking everywhere). As my fingers touched it the cable moved swiftly underneath the chest.

WTF! Enter hubs with torch to check it out. Yep it's a snake - exit stage left to do the quickest googling of our life to check the markings. There is only one poisonous snake left in the UK which is not found in the area but who knows what came in with the last bunch of bananas from Tescos. We ID the grass snake and hubs dons the gauntlets.

These are a bit blurred but you'll understand the camera shake.

My daughter's reaction when we call her to come and see "Can I hold it?" hehe, that's my girl. Snake liberated to the graveyard opposite the house.

I'm not necessarily afraid of snakes, but I'm just not a "surprise!!" girl. Living where I do, a fear of snakes could keep me levitating three feet off the ground most of the year. :)

OTOH, when I was a kid, I jumped over a big log, and it...yawned. Which led to my Cassandra-ing re Steve Irwin in later life.

My god I would have had a heart attack! I've never even seen a wild snake in this country, in the country side, let alone in my house. Like someone said previously. It's not so much I'm scared of snakes most the surprise of finding it lol. Thanks god it wasn't an Adder! :)

Wow. I'm impressed you managed to take pictures. :)

Back when I was first out of college and broke, I lived in a place in the woods outside the city, sharing the rent with a friend from high school. One day he was taking a bath and a snake fell out of the ceiling and *into the bathtub* with him. Freaky.

For months after that I would wake up in the middle of the night and swat at the covers, thinking a snake was there.
