So I'm back from the holiday across the pond.  TStorm Fay did just about everything she could to make us feel well at home with the torrential rain and high winds. Bit like being on a Cornish beach in August. We were lucky though much of Florida was flooded.  But on a serious note I see that Gustav is threatening New Orleans area and my thoughts are with all my flist that may be affected, I was freaked with all the news and tracking predictions for Fay so I cannot imagine how you must be all feeling with a Hurricane on it's way.

Disney World was a blast. Good grief, we were exhausted the first couple of days that we barely had the strength to sink a bottle of shiraz.  Ell's not into white knuckle rides so we did the shows, cutsie stuff and the simulator space rides and stayed away from the death drop/scream with terror things. We stalked most of the Disney characters successfully but Snow White eluded us - I figure she was too lazy to get out of the pit, and where were all the villains?  I wanted my photo op with Maleficent dammit!

Anyhow it was tough to get back to work, first day back -bleurgh-  email box full of barely decipherable messages. Jet Lag seemed worse this time too than the longer haul flights I'd made previously. And Ell didn't fall asleep until 20 mins away from Heathrow.
What can I say, I'd been fortunate to get sneak peaks at bradcpu and obsessive24 vids for banner making purposes but there seemed to be so many awesome vids out there that I am avoiding everything until I get my next project well on the way to completion. I'm feeling fragile enough as it is vidding wise without wanting to court trouble by blinding myself with more awesomeness.
I may not be able to get past this awful feeling of suckiness when it comes to vidding, it may be incurable.  I did love reading the notes on the 'I Suck' panel from VVC - Perhaps that's what I needed, that or a modicom of talent.

So I packed some paper and all my graphite sketching pencils etc, just in case I had a quiet moment and I'd like to do some sketching.   Somewhere between baggage handling Heathrow and the apartment in Davenport the pencils disappeared. All of them - I'd love to know where the bloody hell they went. They were certainly packed and never got to the other end. So I was left with just one propelling pencil and the paper & magazines to copy from.  Thanks to Fay I had a bit of time and got one sketch done.   It's on the site, not brilliant but with just the one pencil I felt fairly accomplished.   I checked my LJ - I haven't posted any artwork since April 2008 and the Sweet Charity Auction and not much in the previous year either. Wow why is it I post vids and not artwork?  what's that all about.... So here's something I did last Autumn.   Big Damn Heroes

Big Damn Heroes. - I miss my shows.  Dr Horrible made me want to sing (eek!) Perhaps Dollhouse will make me want to sketch/paint more. Here's hoping.

Oh, I love Big Damn Heroes! It's beautiful. You are so awesome. I hope you do Sweet Charity again, because I'm selfish and greedy, and provided I extract myself from my current pickle, I'll have money to spend. Also, I owe you a picture now that my redecorating is for the most part complete, so you can see where I've hung Kennedy.

Welcome home!

Thank you - and I would love to see where Kennedy resides - when you get time of course.

I missed the last Sweet Charity auction but will more than likely do the next one, I like to feel I am giving a little back.

Your drawing skills are amazing. I am totally jealous, since I can only draw stick figures. :)

I'm glad you had such a nice trip to Disney World (here I am, jealous again!), and hope your whole trip was full of fun. Welcome home.

Thanks, practice definitely helps with the drawing skills. I should do more because it's yields quicker rewards than vidding ;)

Disney World was fantastic but in a totally knackering way. I think the heat & humidity of Florida had a hand in that.

Nice icon *mmmm bangel*

Thank you! -

I'm tempted to do a Dr Horrible group sketch. Felicia Day is appearing at a convention next year so it would be good to do something for that.

Your drawings are just gorgeous, what incredible skills you have. I envy them. I used to do some illustration, but haven't in ages, I can't imagine how rusty I'd be.

Welcome back from your vacation! So glad you had a lovely time in Disney World. We went there in August one time too..while fortunately we didn't have any hurricane related winds, that Florida heat and humidity really did wear us out!

Goodness, I know that fragile feeling! I've been been doing my best to avoid watching awesome vids too (not as successfully as I'd like though) while working on my first BtVS vid. The song, though amazing, is a tough one and along with how daunting it feels to vid for this fandom...I'm feeling a wee bit shakey, but I keep pluggin' away. Just wish I wasn't so slow!
I hope your vidding project gets underway soon..I know it will be completely wonderful. :)

Thanks for your lovely comment about the drawings - I started drawing/painting again in 2003 after a really long break of 20 years and it's taken at least 5yrs to get some 'form' back. I'm told it's practice that helps. :)

Disney was just so much fun, there is tons left to see should we ever decide to repay a visit. Normally I am ok with heat and humidity as long as I am not expected to do anything!

Avoiding the awesome isn't that easy - I watched Lev's fantastic Spike vid and still owe her some proper feedback. I'm a slow vidder too, I've rushed in the past and put out things that now bug me each time I see them, so I am slowly learning my lesson and seem to take ages. I've only ever vidded the whedonverse so I think a break away from it might be a good idea with the 'I suck' syndrome.

Hey meant to say a little something more here a bit earlier, but online time has been sporadic lately.

I still owe Lev some proper feedback, too....but I think I am still reeling so much from it's magnificence,.my response might still be a bit incoherent. The 'I suck' syndrome should never be visiting you...your work is amazing...I am still catching up with it. I loved Venus and Furs, Free, and I happened to watch Promise today, such fabulous editing (I will leave some feedback to the vids as well). As I said, am feeling pretty nervous since I decided to vid for Buffyverse.,..guess I was in my little secluded vidding world for far too long!
I hope you wouldn't mind if I still took you up on your offer to PM you ask if you might take a look at this Spike/Buffy vid when it's finished. I am being true to my slow vidder form with this one..but like you, when I look back on my vids, the ones that took me the most time are the ones I seem happier with in the end.

Hope things are going well for you vidding wise....congratulations on some of your recent vidding awards, too!!

Well gosh, thanks so much - sometimes we all get so close to our vids we don't see them like others and to hear that you enjoyed them is a job done! A little fb goes a long way and I shall be bouncing this morning. I was mainly pleased with 'Promise' as it was the first and only time (to date) that I have used ULEAD - I think everything I worked out how to do in that editor I've since forgotten.

Don't be nervous about vidding the whedonverse, everyone has their vision about arcs & characters and it is refreshing to see new extremely capable vidders tackling it. And yes I would be delighted to have a look at the vid when you're ready.

Vidding for me isn't happening but mainly down to RL just being so demanding. I made a promise to start again Thursday so let's hope nothing sneaks in a wants sorting instead.
