Yeah, I mean, honestly, I pretty much hated Tony until IM3. His smart ass, I'm the best, hyper-egotistical schtick isn't the kind of thing I connect with at all, so the first IM was the only Avengers movie I watched until the actual Avengers, and I only gave that a shot because Joss was writing and directing. Idky but I found IM boring as hell so never bothered watching anything else in the MCU (and I'm not a comics nerd so I didn't really know anything about it anyway).
Tony was a dick in IM2 (and the movie's treatment of Natasha was absolutely terrible, they spent more time figuring out how to frame her ass than characterisation) but I could at least sympathise with his issues with his father and it made him seem a lot more human to me. Then IM3 happened and they had him experiencing PTSD after the wormhole thing, and it humanised him so much that I actually started liking him. He was still mouthy, but they also made him vulnerable to an extent you don't see much in these kinds of movies, let alone with a character as wish-fulfilment-y and ~alpha male~ as Tony is, so that was awesome to see.
And yeah, his growth really took off in TA, especially when he was arguing with Steve and after giving his "Billionaire, playboy, philanthropist" rejoinder Steve's response was basically "that means jack" (and I was fully on Steve's side for that, I started liking him at that point heh. Steve's my fav now besides Natasha). Ok, so I clearly have rambley feels, lmao.
