It felt like a good idea at the time .....

Ok so quick thoughts on my latest vid - 'Hush' set to Danse Macabre by Saint Saens. I knew the music of old, and have always liked it.

There are some buffyverse vids about using classical music, the best I've seen so far was the brilliantly edited 'BtVS Abridged' by Rowena using Rossini's William Tell Overture, and Charmax did a great 'back in day'gang of four vid using a medley of classical pieces. O Fortuna, or modern remixes of the same, is another one and I really do believe that with the right piece of music they can work.

The downside is that some of the best music is just too long. I have a shortlist of pieces that I would dearly love to use but all need to be remixed/edited in some way. Who wants everyone nodding off to sleep during the vid, or just stopping it half way through with a big yawn. The idea of classical music being a big turnoff to even downloading what would be a sizeable file.

The upside - I loved the fact that it was used briefly in Hush by Joss, once again his choice of classical music perfect as in "Passion" and "Waiting in the Wings". I love that the piece was based on superstition/poetry whose theme was so in keeping with buffyverse. The idea of figures rising at Death's command to dance (the Gentlemens henchmen always looked liked whirling, dancing lunatics) and the sound of the cockerel (Buffy's scream) that brings an end to their dance.

The more I listened to Danse Macabre, certain scenes from 'Hush' were evoked by the music. Out of curiousity I had to try and see if these ideas translated into a music video. I also liked the idea of an instrumental piece for a mainly dialogue free episode, acting as a film score. No theme or idea behind the video apart from narrative.

SO here is my contribution. http://www.buffyandangelart.co.uk/Moving.htm Bottom of the page - there is also a link to the poem that inspired Saint Saen.

Any thoughts are welcome

You seemed to have put alot of thought into this vid so i had to download :) It was really neat. I looooved how you changed the scences whenever there was the slightest change of tone in the song, it made it really interesting. Also, the scream worked really well in the end *nods* Great Job!

Thanks taking time to look at it Jessie, I am glad you weren't bored :) And I just had to use the scream - it seemed so right at that point.

It is difficult to gauge how others will react to all that 'thought ' I put into it. I am glad I did it - it made a nice change to my usual stuff.

Sometimes I 'thinks' too much ;)
