Did the earth move for you baby??
Feb. 27th, 2008 09:29 amYeah, violently for at least ten seconds.....
Before you all run screaming shouting 'eww' at the the thought of old folks getting it on we are about 15 miles south of the epicentre of UK's biggest earthquake for 25 years. 5.2 on the richter scale (or should that be spincter scale?) We experienced a mild shock several years ago here before - it was very much like someone simultaneously slamming every door in the house, but for a split second only.
Last night, just before 1am the shaking (the bed, the whole house and contents) woke us up abruptly and lasted about 10 seconds, which actually feels like a life time. I knew what it was immediately I was just struck by the strength and how long it continued. My thoughts were :
- Ellie (she stayed asleep thankfully)
- Something awful has happened at nearby RAF Waddington (AWACS fly out from there) with a very long explosion - a quickly dismissed thought followed swiftly by a more likely one which was ....
- Impending apocalypse - yeah too much time spent in fandom.
- 2 days without alcohol have caused severe reaction.
We are all ok and needless to say every single damn picture in my house (and if you know me that is many) is crooked but we still have our chimney stacks. I will walk round the house later and check for cracks.
Hope you are ok
acrazywench and you still have your chimneys too.
