So I booked to see the currently sold out King Lear with Simon Russell Beale (Sam Mendes production) in February. It now appears that they clash with an important (i.e. can't get out of it) black tie family bash.

I was so looking forward to the play and will have to try and get more tickets for later in April/May when advance booking re-opens this Friday. If I thought I could avoid the party without ruffling feathers then I would.

I have two tickets for February 22nd 7.00pm at the National Theatre  Circle . Information on the production is here. It's already had 5star reviews so if anyone wants them please message me or pass info to anyone they think might be interested.

Oh, that sucks! I'm sorry you won't get to go. :( If I lived in the UK, I'd be so there.

I went to see the NT Live broadcast of Coriolanus this week. HOMG SO WELL DONE. I'm very excited that they decided to bring it to town, because for a while there, it looked like it wasn't going to play in this part of the country at all.

I hope I'll be able to get tickets for a later date - it's just a lot of messing around.

Pleased you got to see Coriolanus. I think there were many new cinemas added to the list as it was so popular. The production was stunning wasn't it?

It really was! I thought it was brilliant that Josie Rourke cast a younger man as Coriolanus. You need someone with that athleticism to make his one-man-army attacks convincing. Plus, his strident beliefs and hot temper are more typical of youth; and it made his relationship with his mother much more believable.

Hiddleston was a big, blazing ball of charisma, and Mark Gattis was a standout. I found Debra Findlay's Volumnia could have been more nuanced for most of her scenes, but she won me over in Act V.

The hand-to-hand combat scene between Coriolanus and Aufidius was pretty much porn. Holy homoeroticism, batman. I can't believe they went there, but I am very glad they did.

I thought the camera crew did an amazing job of capturing the immediacy of a live theatre experience. It wasn't the same as being there, but it was a damned close second.

Here's hoping they bring King Lear to my town, too!
