Song long irritating streaming site that really didn't want vidders.   Simplify the site indeed - yeah, no-one on there.

They've been slowly eroding the joy of being a member, the  ads,  'not available videos' , unable to embed and now can't upload and everything is going to be dumped on the 30th.  *sigh*  Personally I have always offered downloads of my vids, but I do understand that some people cannot download and/ or much prefer to see them streamed.

I do have a vimeo account but have never published any link to to the few i have put up on there, they really don't want us so I can't be arsed to put in the effort to do that.   I am already a member of BAM Vid Vault which is shaping up to be a fab place and the creators/admins are vidders. I hope they can cope with the inlfux from imeem.  My only regret is you have to be a member to watch the vids so it's not casual viewer friendly.

I will also be checking out blip.tv and the possibility of streaming direct from my site to here. But it's on the list and there are lots of other things already on it.

Ooh random note - points to new banner - I felt like having a fine art banner (Waterhouse - one of the pre-raphaelite Brotherhood, my favourite school of art)  I've been playing with some more manips using fine art (yes I am strange) I'll post some soon, and you can marvel at the weirdness that is me.

Right, I better get uploading then.

Thanks aren't the colours sensational? you were the inspiration to use the fine art, I should have said.

It's two pictures that I've blended - One called Mermaid and the other Sirens by J W Waterhouse. I think I will make some icons too.

I'm glad my idea sparkled your muse!

You made a wonderful work blending the two images. They are perfect in this way! Brava!

I've just been over there - looks cool so far and all my latest uploads have gone up fine. I'll be putting up all the older stuff.

You're doing a great job what with all the changes at Bam and information emails - we vidders are not used to being kept in the loop.(with the exception of the lj comms of course)

Thank you. It's all done with equal parts love, fear, bravado and belief that we maybe one day we won't have to run from agents. Am I saying we can dodge bullets? No, I am saying when we are ready we won't need to.

Damn Imeem! Although I have an account at Bam Video I have some concerns about the ning hosting. I'll most likely be giving blip.tv a go.

What are your concerns about the ning hosting?

As for imeem...wow, how craptastic. I had no idea this was all going down until everyone on my flist started posting about it. I just deleted both of my accounts there...guess I'll stick with BAM for the moment and Youtube (whatever it will allow). I could stream from my own site but I run like 4-5 domains off the same lunarpages account and while streaming videos would be fine if that was my only domain, I think it might put too much strain on my bandwidth, especially since two of my other domains are graphics and video heavy already.

If BAM and YT completely fail though, I'll consider doing my own streaming....

I saw that [livejournal.com profile] rhoboat posted a tut about streaming from your own site, currently I have the bandwidth and it's only me on that site too. But I have to stop and convert and what not so I guess it'd be a long term project.

I feel like us vidders are buskers that keep getting moved on by
the law - except for we never pass the hat around.

I just don't think BAM Vid Vault is the safe haven for vidders that it's being made out to be as it's just an off shoot from ning.com. All the videos are presumably on their servers which puts us in the same predicament as we were on Imeem and Youtube. And with an infux of vidders and the videos being streamed aren't Ning going to be looking closely at BAM to see where the spike in bandwidth is coming from? With Imeem the vids trickled away but I can see BAM being brought down all in one fell swoop. I seriously don't think it can last. Oh and we're safer being surrounded by mainstream vids and remixes than just being a clump of fanvids, imho.

Also, I feel the close knit community aspect at BAM may get a little clique-y which I'm trying to distance myself from. Been there, done that and don't fancy it again much.

Streaming from your own domain also has it's problems, I tried that back in my early days of vidding and that puts way to much strain on my bandwidth it would only be a matter of time before my hosts came calling.

I understand your concerns. I don't think though you'll have to worry about a spike registering with Ning. There are plenty of other social networks on there of more prominence than us. Celebrities even use this as their main fan site.

We're here and we will be doing our best to make it a decent community. I understand the trepidation and sometimes no amount of reassurance can change that. We'll just do what we can do. I encourage every one to examine their options.

I thank for your comment and we will use that as feedback on issues we need to address.

Hey you :) Did you have a paid account at Imeem 'cos that would really bite?

I don't know much about ning - or if they are ready for us vidders. Yes, I watched a vid streamed on Blip and it looked good.

I stupidly bought a VIP account about 6 months ago and not once saw any benefit from it. *facepalm*

Yeah, I voice my concerns about ning up thread. Blip looks a little more promising for me but we'll see.

I totally get where you are coming from with your thoughts on BAM I guess it's a case of wait and see.

I think we've got to check out all the possibilities, so Blip has got to be considered. And blast for that VIP account - I'd be furious!

Seriously.

Did you say that you deleted your imeem account? I can't figure out how to do that yet so if you know, please let me know.

BAM, here I come. :)

No I haven't deleted the account yet - I'm just putting the vids elsewhere. I'll wait until the 30th June rolls round and then see what happens.

I'll let you know of course if I find a way to do it.
