Vidukon - Con Report

We didn't know what time we would get away from work on Friday but made it to Cardiff by about 8.30pm - I didn't commit to the group meal many had arranged for the Friday night, perhaps next time if the event runs over 3 days.   It was really good to meet up with some super people from the previous event, and also put faces to names/ long time on line acquaintances. The whole event was relaxed and a clear program  (no clashes so we weren't forced to choose what to attend) made it a very enjoyable experience.

A packed program on Saturday kicked off with jagwriter78  'Made in the UK' Vid show.. I'd only seen one of the vids and there was a wide variation of fandoms so that was a great start to the con.  Other vidshows that I really enjoyed were Epic Bromance put together by mresundance and Non Canon Pairings by obsessive24  - although I knew quite a few of the vids in the latter show.  For shame I couldn't get to the femslash or the festivid show but I have a list and will try and catch up on those. 

There were six panels over th two days,  some took a group discussion feel and all were informative and fun (Learning to let Go possibly group therapy!) .  bop_radar  panel on 'Spotlight on Character' was very interesting as lately I have made a whole bag of character studies and discussion on the different approaches to this was most useful.  I must say though that obsessive24 panel on colour and texture was my personal favourite -  without trying to cover all that went on I would heartily recommend that you check out her write up - comprehensive and thorough, with some stunning vids as examples and the vidders own thoughts on the use of colour/ texture in each. 

A two part premiere show on Saturday evening closed the event for the day - I do have some recs so will list those at the end of this post.  Of the 110 vids I watched over the weekend ( I missed 2 shows - I'd only previously seen 20 - lots I may have not normally have watched and there were some excellent vids amongst them.

None of this would have happened though without the hard work and efforts of buffyann and bop_radar , plus local help from beccatoria & brokenmnemonic - they have my gratitude and here's to another event in the future.

Recs from the premiere show :  ' Blue Caravan' (Dr Who)  by such_heights ,  Fascination (Billy Eiiott) by charmax , Hug My Soul (Nodame Cantabile) by bop_radar ,  Sigh No More (amazing Grace) by talitha78   and When I Fall Asleep (Dr Who) by buffyann .  All vids were great to see though... I would recommend checking them all.

I have some more recs to post  from the other vid shows, but will do that later once I have all the links sorted.

Oh, I so wish I could have been there! It sounds absolutely wonderful. Also makes me super anxious for VVC.

At least we get panel notes and recs and vids now.

It was a really fun weekend without too much pressure - not for the con organizers though, bless 'em they all worked hard but it meant we had a brill time and could see all on offer rather than pick and choose.

Perhaps one day you can make it over here 'cause that would be great.
